Moving to Hostinger
In November 2023 I took the decision to move away from SiteGround for operational reasons. Having done the research for alternative providers, I eventually settled on Hostinger’s Web-Hosting plan. The practicality of using Hostinger — the migration, staging options, email, hPanel, and the AI support tools — I’ll come back to in further articles. This is a quick overview: the pros and cons of the hosting service itself since I made the switch.
One thing worth saying upfront: I moved to the Cloud Hosting package after a few months, as I was generally happy with the service. Moving to the cloud shifted my sites from basic shared hosting to isolated resources, giving the backend an additional boost in power and reliability. There are still a number of tools within the package, with which, I have yet to experiment, so this isn’t a “final verdict, case closed” review. It’s a snapshot of where things stand, pros and cons as I’ve actually experienced them to date, with the caveat that you never know what is around the corner.
What I’ve found genuinely good
- hPanel that doesn’t feel like a downgrade
Coming from SiteGround’s own custom panel, which I really liked, I was braced for a steep learning curve using new provider tools. I needn’t have worried — Hostinger’s hPanel has a familiar feel to it, is fairly intuitive, well documented (if required), and I’ve found it really user-friendly from day one. - Performance Reliability
I can barely remember a time when my website or email went down — aside from a very brief, temporary lapse with the email server. My plan offers plenty of resources, and Hostinger are great about sending quick notifications if a minor issue pops up, like a random bot surge. - LiteSpeed built in
Having LiteSpeed Cache available and properly supported at the hosting level, rather than being something of an afterthought, has made setting up caching considerably less frustrating – although the task itself still has its idiosyncrasies. - QUIC.cloud integration
A second layer of optimisation for the media library and automated UCSS/CCSS has made performance optimisation a far less stressful task whilst also removing the need for multiple plugins to do the equivalent job. - CDN
The CDN being part of the same ecosystem rather than a separate third-party integration (eg Cloudflare) has generally meant fewer moving parts to troubleshoot when finally getting a new site live online. - AI Support
I had my doubts about this when I first moved over given the high level of support I received at SiteGround. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Kodee, the AI assistant, provides invaluable real time support in almost any circumstance (I’ve encountered to date). The delivery may be different but I cannot fault the return. - Price-to-feature balance
For a business with multiple websites with modest but real performance requirements, the value here has been solid. I intentionally have headroom in the Cloud resources allowance and the service has been completely reliable offering everything I need from a hosting provider.
What’s been a mixed bag
- Multi-layer caching complexity
Contradicting myself slightly here, but running LiteSpeed Cache, Hostinger’s own caching layer, and QUIC.cloud together means there are effectively three caching layers stacked on top of each other. Clearing “the cache” isn’t a single action — it’s clearing several, and even after clearing all of them simultaneously, I’ve had situations where a page still served stale content for a while afterward. It’s not broken, exactly, but it demands more attention and patience than a single-layer cache setup would. I do find this a little frustrating at times and I’d like to have more confidence in knowing the pages served to users are the most up to date versions. - Website Performance work still genuinely in progress
I’d rather point this out than gloss over it. The BMCS rebuild is the first time I’ve tried to go all-in with the caching options: image optimisation through QUIC.cloud, trimming render-blocking CSS/JS, and improving Largest Contentful Paint are all still active items on my list, not a finished task. Some of that is down to the complexity of the site itself — GSAP animations, dynamic JetEngine listings, Elementor (with its quirks) — rather than a shortfall in what Hostinger provides. So whilst I’ve settled on a position I can live with, there is still work to do to have a fully optimised site.
Was it the right move?
Yes — nothing here has given me a reason to reconsider. The combination of hPanel familiarity, built-in tools that have been solid to utilise, consistent and reliable performance, and great value for money have justified that. The caching complexity, while genuinely annoying at times, hasn’t cost me anything worse than a frustrating half hour occasionally chasing down why a change wasn’t showing yet.
I’ll likely revisit this article, or write a follow-up, in a few months’ time — at that point I’ll have ironed out the kinks in the optimisation process and tried out a couple more of the Cloud tools. For now, this is an honest account of my Hostinger experience to date and I would certainly add them to your list of potential hosting providers.
